A Timothy Brindle-esque Biblical-Theological rap using tools I’ve learned from Westminster Theological Seminary’s books and lectures (which doesn’t compare to what time Brindle has put in there in person). This is from a Progressive Covenantal stance on Law in Redemption History.

Some think Jesus sends us backwards
in redemption history to the Ten Words,
back to Moses for growth in holiness.
Erroneous! Who was it that told you this?
Jesus is way better than Moses is!
As He comes out of Egypt He shows He is
the end-time Israel, Head of the new exodus,
appointed in Hosea 1:11
in union with His true brethren,
then when He sits atop the Mountain
Yahweh incarnate tells us about Him,
His rule and its regulations.
He as Man is in Moses’ station
since man needs special mediation,
but nearer than he was as friend of God
since He always was with God and was God.
Ontologically Christ is superior to Moses,
no one knows man or was God more than Jesus!
Biblical-theologically Christ fulfills Moses
and Israel as Matthew clearly wrote this.
So we’re now in a position to ask the question,
“To whom else can we go for sanctification?”
Jesus Christ is God incarnate and the new Moses,
so go to Christ as He His will discloses.

“But I say to you who hear…
Love your enemies,
do good to those who hate you,
bless those who curse you,
pray for those who abuse you.
To one who strikes you on the cheek,
offer the other also.”
This is the law of Christ-
Jesus is our law code!

Now, I know what you’re thinking,
“How are His words and the Ten different?”
Though they were written with the same Finger,
redemptive-historically and covenantally they differ.
Though echoing creation’s Ten times “He spoke,”
these were drafted after Pharaoh was smoked,
meaning, there was a time “before the law was given,”
“it was added because of transgressions;”
tied to the old exodus Jeremiah said would pale
compared to the new* where all without fail
are heart-circumcised covenant keepers
(using the same language Moses speaks of).*
Plus, Jeremiah says about the new covenant,
it’s ”not like” the former, hence old covenant.
Note, its not just a new administration,
for their hearts there needs a replacement:
a new covenant with new hearts, a new Spirit
led by a new Moses out of exile to new creation.
Now here’s the Fulfillment- the Word made flesh,
beginning His mission with an inaugural address.
He then performs Ten miracles before His next monologue:
an Exodus plague patterned replay of creation’s Decalogue!
So who is there for Jesus to send us to?
As with Adam, Jesus is Moses number two!

“But I say to you who hear…
Love your enemies,
do good to those who hate you,
bless those who curse you,
pray for those who abuse you.
To one who strikes you on the cheek,
offer the other also.”
This is the law of Christ-
Jesus is our law code!

We have to face some obvious conclusions:
the law’s glory past by the glory He’s exuding,
a permanent ministry of life and righteousness,
not the letter but the Spirit of Christ Jesus.
It’s a better covenant established on better promises,
put in force by infinitely better sacrifices.
Though the essence of the law is immutable,
love to God and man is the bare minimum,
yet “no one ever spoke like this man before!”
Jesus’ yoke is easy but the demand is much more:
have you ever loved God to the point of cross-death,
or loved man so much you give up your last breath?
Christ’s love is cross-shaped- cruciform-
so His pattern of love is our moral norm.
Perfect for new creations in union with Jesus,
predestined to be conformed into His image.
Why wouldn’t we be told to behold Him?
There is no one with which to compare Him!
Moses and Elijah fade away in His glory,
“they saw no one but Jesus only.”*
If not this, you have to keep the law wholly,
its not a cafeteria of “moral” only!
Keep the Sabbath, circumcision, sacrifice,
go into the land and destroy the Canaanites!
You wanna kill people? Man, that’s old school!
Out with the old and in with the new!
So we keep the law of Christ- the new Moses-
the new covenant code with full atonement.
So, not one child of God will become lawless-
if they do, then they prove they’re new-heartless!

“But I say to you who hear…
Love your enemies,
do good to those who hate you,
bless those who curse you,
pray for those who abuse you.
To one who strikes you on the cheek,
offer the other also.”
This is the law of Christ-
Jesus is our law code!
