We despise what we do not want
We possess what we do not need
We cringe for what we thirst
We yearn for what we crave
We do not know a thing
We do not know at all

“Little children, guard yourselves from idols.”

We must know it all
We must know everything
We must cringe at what we crave
We must yearn for what we thirst
We must possess what we do not want
We must despise what we do not need

“You are from God, little children,
and have overcome them;

because greater is He who is in you
than he who is in the world.”

We have overcome, He has overcame
We who know the Lord, we’re now called by His name
He now dwells with us, His Spirit dwells within
He who reigns above, we shall reign with Him
We now come from God, called forth as His sons
We have overcome, washed clean by the Son
Greater He in us, than he who’s in the world
Greater still, we see our Precious, Priceless Pearl

“Little children, let us not love
with word or with tongue,

but in deed and truth.”

We must love like Him, we emulate our Christ
We demonstrate our love, in deed, in truth, in life
He taught us of His love, He guides us by His Word
He spoke His Word to us, and we have truly heard
We are born again, born as children of the King
We can see His face, the Lord who makes us sing
Show no hypocrisy, let’s shine as lights like He
Show only love in truth, let’s show His love in deed

“Little children, make sure no one deceives you;
the one who
practices righteousness
is righteous, just as He is righteous…”

He is our righteous King, we celebrate His works
He set the firm example, yet our sin will ever lurk
We practice righteousness, He is the Righteous One
We belong to Jesus Christ, and He will never shun
He is our righteousness, He can’t deny Himself
He shows us by the Word, His goodness is our wealth
Fight to practice Christ, the vision of our life
Fight to end deception, that we can’t obey Christ

“Now, little children, abide in Him,
so that when He appears,
we may
have confidence and
not shrink away from Him in shame
at His coming.”

He abides in us, so that we abide in Him
He will return again, that appearance will be grim
We will not shrink back, no, we won’t be ashamed
We have confidence in Christ, we bear His very name
He will dwell with us, in the place that He prepares
He will rule all people, you sinners be aware
Come to rule this Kingdom, Jesus, Son of God
Come to save your people, we will watch in awe

“I am writing to you, little children,
because your sins
have been forgiven you
for His name’s sake…
I have written
to you, children,
because you know the Father.”

We are His possession, the people He’s redeemed
He is our possession, the God whom we have seen
We are His very children, forgiven for His sake
He let us know the Father, His Spirit made us wake
He atoned for our great sin, suffered wrath for me
We are Christ’s inheritance, chosen to be free
The Apostles of our Lord, they’ve given us His Word
Apostles of our Lord, have written to be heard

“My little children, I am writing these things to you
so that
you may not sin.
And if anyone sins, we have an
Advocate
with the Father, Jesus Christ the righteous;
and He Himself is the propitiation
for our sins;
and not for ours only,
but also for those of the whole world.”

Jesus is our advocate, He intercedes for me
Jesus is my righteousness, will be for eternity
The Father hears my case, not by merit of my own
The Father justifies, Christ has made me known
Jesus paid for every sin, for all who call on Him
The Father is my Father, because I am born again
Apostles taught me this, through the Spirit’s inspiration
The Holy Spirit wrote for me, that I would cease to sin

“Little children, guard yourselves from idols.”

He is what we want
He is what we need
He is what we crave
He is what we thirst
He is what we know
He is all in all
