For three days a corpse lay in the dark
Sealed by rock, in silence, laid a monarch
A cool, black space, no air to move the dust
Only for three days, just as He’d discussed

There must have been a moment
Though the Bible hasn’t told it
When cold, dead flesh grew soft
And His eyes became unglossed
His fingers must have moved
And in moving He dared prove
That death had no more power
That the dark had spent its hour
And Jesus stood alive in victory

There are details of that moment
He’s hidden from Jews and Romans
Did Jesus have a smile
And was the Devil in denial
Knowing Christ was brought to life again?
These are secrets to mere man
But this was a moment in Jesus’ history

Was the quiet of the morning
The final time of scorning?
Was Satan really hopeful
That he could be so boastful
To think he’d ended the Son of Man?

For three days a corpse lay in the dark
Sealed by rock, in silence, laid a monarch
A cool, black space, no air to move the dust
Only for three days, just as He’d discussed

A crash of noise and the sealed tomb was bare
The linen was laid flat, the face-cloth folded there
An angel came and rolled away the stone
Which scared the guards straight to the bone
They fell like dead men upon the ground
And the women soon came around
Bringing spices to perfume His body
But angels gave a message ever shocking:
“He is not here, but He has risen”

Jesus died for my atonement
And was accepted in that moment
By proof of life though He had died
The truth was testified
His sacrifice was worthy of the cost
He was made alive as Savior of the lost
Giving weight to the coming great commision

For those God chose to save
Salvation was guaranteed on that day
But for those who hate His coming
Whose war songs are ever drumming
The resurrection is more than they can stand
